Actress Kritika Kamra will make a comeback on the small screen as a host of MTV Webbed. She says she can’t play one character for years in a row like other TV stars. By Iknoor Kaur
When Kritika Kamra decided to join the television industry she was sure that it wasn’t going to be a long-term affair. After almost four successful years on the small screen, the actress took a break. However, the break turned out to be a short one. She is back on TV but this time as herself in the popular youth show MTV Webbed. Kamra will be seen hosting the second season of the show which is slated to start on April 4. Talking about cyber crimes, the show will feature people from all age groups and show their experiences with the Internet.
Kamra feels that it is important for people to know what the Internet is capable of doing. “I am very Internet savvy and literally addicted to it. So I’ve always wanted to talk about the Internet. People don’t realise that when they reveal information about themselves on Net, it can be very dangerous and can lead to stalking as well. This show tells them this. I relate to this show a lot because I know what it is like to be vulnerable on the web. I don’t want to preach but sometimes facts are not enough to convince people,” she says and adds that some of her personal experiences on the Internet have been scary. “So many things can happen on the Net. One of the most common occurrences is people tampering with your pictures. I have personally faced that which is why I’m very particular now about my pictures that go up. Also, being an actor, there are so many times that people get in touch with you saying that they are directors and want to cast us. But actually it’s all spam and can turn out to be dangerous,” she shares.
Kamra may be going the non-fiction way with this show, but her ambitions are different. She says, “I want to try everything that this industry has to offer. I took a break from TV because I wanted to explore other arenas. I went to Europe for a holiday, spent time with family and attended workshops. I’ve also been talking to people for a few films and something should take off soon.”
According to Kamra, she’s not someone who can do a show for years without a break. “A story needs to end somewhere. All the shows I’ve done have gotten over at some point. I don’t like it when stories continue without any reason. It gets too much for me. I can’t live the same character all my life. There needs to be variation. I am happy with the work I’ve done on television so far. I’ve always chosen what to do. I wanted to host, that’s why I’m doing this show, but I don’t know if I will continue to do it in the next season,” she concludes.
